The Beverage Alternative

As we try to fulfill those New Year's resolutions of losing weight, I know a lot of you will be drinking more water. It's a virtue that we've extolled numerous times here. However, there are a lot of people out there who just don't like water. Either that or, in order to get the required amount, they end up drinking water for every occasion and meal, and that gets boring. What we need is some alternatives that have the hydrating qualities of water, but with a little flavor, perhaps. Still, we need to stay away from soda and fruit juices that are filled with sugar and sodium. This will absolutely ruin your diet. Instead, here are a few healthy and tasty options.

1. Crystal Light. This is quite a good option, for many reasons. Firstly, it's a low calorie, low sugar, high taste way to get your required water. Many diets allow you to count a serving of Crystal Light as a glass of water. Secondly, it comes in so many delicious flavors it would be hard to get bored. Some are great, some are not so awesome, but you have a lot to experiment with. They make fruit flavors, teas, lemonades... You get the picture. They even make packs you can put into a bottle of water and take with you. Now you don't have any excuses!

2. Vitamin Water. I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. Vitamin Water is beyond tasty, and very good for you. As opposed to drinking something that just tastes good, you can have a significant amount of vitamins, too. On a personal note, I believe the claims that Defense Vitamin Water will help protect you against the common cold is true. I'm usually a sickly girl, but ever since I started drinking Defense I never get sick. Coincidence...?

3. Fruit-flavored waters. There seem to be a lot of these on the market lately. There's Fruit 2 0, Propel, and any other of the myriad products. While they are not my favorite (a little too saccharine on the flavor), they are still a good option. Aquafina's brand makes a pretty good one, although I've found it's difficult to locate a store that carries them.

On a final note, you may have heard the rumor that drinking too much water is bad for you, and you could drown your cells and die. My father continually cautions me about this. I'm here to tell you it's just not true. Well, it's somewhat true, but you'd have to drink an absurd amount of water to make that happen. I wouldn't recommend it as a form of suicide. Oh I'm kidding. Go drink water!
